The Original Trilogy Is Back! Disneyland Finally Unlocks Galaxy’s Edge

If you haven't heard, there's some new news about Galaxy's Edge only for Disneyland. I do have some. Did I not bring my Oh my phone's recording? Did you want to use my phone? No, it's OK.

00:04:00Is unusual. Yeah, but Disney announced on Tuesday, I think it was Tuesday, I. Think so, yeah. Tuesday January 14th that they are on unlocking the timeline a Galaxy's Edge specifically at Disneyland. This does not apply to Disney World. Sorry Disney World, Magic Kingdom or no Hollywood studio goers, you will not be getting this. And everyone says what is Disneyland? Get all the cool stuff. Shall I name Tron? Shall I name? Cosmic Rewind, Do we even need to talk about early entry? I think we are all aware. Or Deluxe Hours.

00:04:52Or Epcot. Epcot. Pandora. I think I'm going to make a rant post about early entry and how how I'm feeling. Yeah, yeah. But anyways, this is Disneyland only. So what that means is so backing up a little bit. So when Galaxy's Edge opened up in 2019, was it 2019? I believe so, yes, 2019 is right before COVID and it it opened up between episodes 8:00 and 9:00 of Star Wars, so The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. And so that was kind of like the timeline of when this land takes place. So you have Rey walking around, you got Chewie, you have Kylo Ren and his stormtroopers

00:05:50looking for Rey resistance allies and all that kind of stuff. That was kind of the the time period that it took place in. And so they were just trying to, you know, create stories around that time in the Star Wars universe and a lot of backlash from that sounds. Very dramatic. A lot of, A lot of. Backlash. Well, Galaxy Edge was promised to be something a lot more than what it actually ended up being. They, they, they talked about how it's going to be totally interactive. There was going to be characters and creatures walking around that you can interact with. You know you're there was the the pitched it as like how what

00:06:41happens in one area is going to affect you in another area. So like if you did really bad on Smugglers Run and you banged up the banged up the Falcon, that there would be a bounty put on your head. And so you go to Oga's Cantina and you may have an interaction with some of the locals who may like, hey, I heard, you know, Hondo's looking how? In the world would did they expect to keep track of all that? I don't know, but that's what they pitched it, that's what they said in the press releases, that's what they did in the interviews and everything, and it totally fell flat. And that stuff didn't. Did not happen. And so so there was a lot of of,

00:07:17you know, people who are giving, you know, Galaxy's edge a hard time be just because it wasn't what it was supposed to be. There was also supposed to be a third ride that was individual, you know, that was cancelled. So there was also a lot that had to be pulled back because of budget issues, but because like, rises to resistance didn't even open up until like over a year later, the ride after Galaxy's Edge, you know, because they closed down because of COVID. So that halted construction. So there were just a whole lot of issues that just like Galaxy's Edge just cannot be what it was promised to be. And so, so one of the biggest complaints was that it was locked in this weird time period of between episodes 8:00 and

00:08:079:00. And the Imagineers at the time were very strict. Like we don't, we want this to be a specific timeline. We don't actually, I shouldn't say the Imagineers. It was actually Lucasfilm that was very specific. Like we want to live in this specific timeline where the imagineers want to do a lot more. But Lucasfilm was very, you know, pert near, what's the word strict on, you know, it has to live in this time period so it doesn't break the timeline. Cause Lucasfilm's always been like, we want, you know, you know, Star Wars Canon to be like this. We don't want it to break the timeline and all that kind of

00:08:44stuff. And so we see what we've had these last, you know how long it's been 7 years now since it's been open. Hang on, you keep talking. I'm going to see. I I Feel 2019 Open 2019-2020 6. But I'm just trying to think of. May of 20, May of 2019 when it opened. But we went on Rise of the Resistance opened before COVID. No and Disneyland. It opened after. COVID no, because we got Boston those Toy Story shoes so he would be tall enough so that all of us could go on it. I don't know. I'm looking at pictures I could just Google, but just. Google it or. Look it up.

00:09:31Yeah, look it up. I want to look because that was the last trip and then it shut down and then we didn't go again till our daughter was a baby when it opened up. I want to look at pictures. I'm looking it up right now. You're looking it up, I'm looking at. Pictures December 5th, 2019. Where? Which one though? Ha ha, are you talking about Rise? Yeah, that opened up in Orlando 1st 2019. Disneyland opened January 17th 2020. OK, before COVID. OK. Yeah, because we went in early February of 2020. OK, so then Galaxy's edge.

00:10:13So I was wrong. I'll I'll I'll admit it, I was Galaxy's edge. Because I don't don't. Opened. Don't mess with my memory when it comes to our kids and when they were old enough to ride things. 2019 May 31st, 2019 So I was right about 2019. Yes, but, but I remember because that was the whole thing. He was like just 40 inches and so we were worried that he wouldn't stand up straight. We got him those Toy Story light up shoes so that he would like definitely get it so that we could all go on it together. That's right. That's right. And that was when there was just three kids, not 4 kids. Yeah, so, so yes, so the, you

00:10:55know, Disneyland, specifically Disneyland has been a little bit more relaxed when it comes to what characters show up inside the land. They, you know, they first introduced Mando from, you know, Mandalorian. He was a character which takes place, he his timeline is before the before the Last Jedi. And then Ahsoka came and then Boba Fett came. I know I'm making you, I'm making you sleepy over here, but I'm just, I have to give. I know they're really small. They're really small, but I was talking about how Disneyland was closed. Oh yeah, that was sad. This is during I'm showing it. I'm sorry podcast friends was when Disneyland was closed.

00:11:45We went to Downtown Disney. It was so sad. We wanted to go in so bad. It was so sad to see it close like that. But you could go in Downtown Disney. But anyways, I'm letting my nerd show. I'm letting my nerd show. Do you hide it? No, I don't, but I'm just putting it all on display right now. OK. And so, you know, all those came first in Disneyland and then you start having the the Disneyland after dark events. So they had Star Wars Nights and then they started, you know, they started, what's the word debuting some of the the original trilogy characters,

00:12:31Luke. Oh, during the Star Wars night. Leah Han and so that got a lot of people loved it. And then just recently they started having Luke Rome like original trilogy Luke, so young Luke Rome Galaxy's Edge with R2R2D2. Really. I haven't heard about this. This was probably sometime last year. So it was just kind of like a like, hey, he's out there and the the poor cast member. He didn't look like Luke, but because they had like a full on like wig, you know, the 70s like a bowl cut. But they had him roaming around. And so I think it was a test to see, see what people, what their response was to this.

00:13:19And so with all that being said, last week on Tuesday, January 14th, Disney announced that they are officially unlocking the timeline. So they are getting rid of Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren's stormtroopers will no longer be roaming the park, and they're going to. Be do not like Tyler. He's being replaced by Darth Vader in a real original trilogy Stormtroopers. So like the Stormtroopers from the original movies. And, and then he's going to be he's going to be searching for Luke. He's going to be hunting down Luke to try to find him. And then Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie are all going to be hanging out around the Falcon.

00:14:07Luke is going to be looking for force out artifacts and kyber crystals to, you know, to help people, you know, build lightsabers at Sabi's workshop. And so that's kind of like the tie in there. And but so they will only be so how? Cause Ray is still going to be in the park. Ray's still going to be there in the land. They're keeping her, restricting her to the rise of the resistance area. So that so each part of the land is going to be separated into different like timelines. So the Falcon area is going to be original trilogy. So all the original care, real original trilogy characters are kind of like going to be in the

00:14:57the the Falcon area and then by the tie fighter where Kylo Ren used to come out. So all that's going to be original trilogy area, the marketplace where you have like the the the shops as you walk through like the tunnel, and then you have the, the, the, the food and all like the Ronto wraps where all that has that's going to be in the Mandalorian era. So you're going to have Mando, you're going to have Ahsoka, you're going to have Boba Fett. OK. And then rise. Like a hot mess a little bit. It's a. Little hot A hot mess. It's a little hot mess. 00:15:39Resistance area is going to be new sequel trilogy with Ray. OK, so there, where is Chewie going to be, I ask you. You you ask me what I assume he's going to He can be in the. Shoe, He's going to be everywhere. Because he he's one of the few characters that he's been in like every he's been like in everyone. He he was not in episode 1. He was, he was not in episode 2. He was in episode 3. Yeah. But the the Galaxy that just don't have prequels which is too bad cuz prequels are cool. I like prequels. Yeah, I wouldn't mind a young OB one. Yeah, Ewan McGregor just kind of shows up.

00:16:26Don't even. Hello there. Don't even get me started on Ewan McGregor. We need to make a Ewan McGregor sticker. So yeah, so, so because of that, some, some of the shops and some of the buildings are going to be updated to to reflect the original trilogy. Ogus Cantina is going to get a original trilogy kind of makeover. So they're going to be, you know, like they're going to play the Cantina Band song. So that'll be fun. The music I'm excited about them having like the original music. That's another I'll get that in a little bit. And so the the time. So some of these, like some of

00:17:06the back stories are going to be changing, like Oga's Cantina is now like a new like bar in Cantina that just opened up because it's the original trilogy era. But they could make it like the they should have a show. They should have a show that's like in Jabba's. Jabba's Palace from Return to Jeddah. Jedi Rocks. That's the name of that song. Jedi Rocks. That one. Yeah, that's a good one. Yeah, yeah, they should have Yoda. Yeah, and and and So what I was saying, oh, the like the the 1st order store that's by the TIE Fighter that's being turned into a what's it called?

00:17:58I'm looking it up. Let's see Black Spire Surplus, a military salvage operation offering artifacts from across the history of the Galaxy, including Imperial and Rebel items from the Galactic Civil War. And so I'm just going to read from the The Parks blog as antique antiquities shops often do. Doc Ondards Din of Antiquities will display Doc Hondars Den of Antiquities will display a different array of one of kind items from its past. And then the earlier generation of the Mubow family will operate Droid Depot where they will be prototyping BB style of Droid. You'll sell the opportunity to purchase and create your own Droid companion at this shop.

00:18:48That's the same, right? So it's the same. It might have like different, you know, decorations and things and but you mentioned the music. I did indeed mention the music. So another criticism of Galaxy's Edge is that as you walk through the land, it's one of the only places in the entire park that there's no music. It's just sound effects of like creatures and, you know, ships flying ahead and, and the only music that you hear is that when you walk through the, the tunnels that get into the land and it's, it's not even like a full song. It's kind of like ambient kind of Chinese type signing. And so the galaxy's edge theme song was actually composed by John Williams, the, the composer

00:19:41of all the Star Wars movies. But you actually don't hear that song. You only hear that song in one place. And that's on smugglers run when when you actually when the bride ends and when you're coming back in. That's the only time that you hear it. So but anyways, so they are bringing original Star Wars music composed from the movie by John Williams will be playing throughout the land. Which that will be cool. That will be. Cool. So as you walk through the tunnels, you're they're going to be playing the main theme, you're going to hear the Cantina band, you're going to be hearing

00:20:17the Force theme, the Binary sunset. All these, like classic Star Wars songs that are so recognizable will be heard throughout the park, which is pretty cool. Yeah, I think that's going to make a huge difference in the feel. Yeah, because music does. Because like, you go to Avengers campus and they play all the music from the Marvel movies, right? And it feels pretty cool. Oh yeah, that's like my favorite part of Avengers campus. Honestly. Like they definitely need to to upgrade upgrade but they are adding to Avengers campus and hopefully it'll be better. But the.

00:21:00Music and PIM's kitchen. It's like my favorite thing. Well, I OK Mission breakout, but yeah. That was there before Avengers Campus, but sure, as far you know, the shows are so gonna be the same. I saw new treats. Shadows of a Memory. Shadows of excuse me, Shadows of Memory, a Skywalker Saga, which is a projection show that happens before and after the fireworks and then Fire of the Rising Moons, which is the Disneyland fireworks from Galaxy's Edge. And that's some well, no, they of course they want to do it in Disney World because it's Hollywood Studios. Hollywood Studios. So they don't.

00:21:38Yeah. Which I was bummed when I was there on my solo trip in November. I went to. I was live streaming for that. But because it was the holiday fireworks, it was shorter. It was really short. So it was, it wasn't the one you and I had seen when we were there in October. And that one was really cool. And this one was just kind of like. Yeah. You know it. Was, but yeah, if you haven't watched Fireworks from Galaxy's Edge, highly recommend doing it because it's a different experience. It's the same fireworks, but it's with Star Wars music.

00:22:13So they, they, depending on which fireworks show it is, they they change the music to fit the fireworks show from Galaxy's edge. So if it's like Wondrous Journeys, it's one set of music. And then if it's the, it's the, you know, Halloween fireworks, it's a different set of music because it's a different fireworks show from on the Disneyland side. Same thing with the, the, the holidays fireworks show. It's a different set of music. So there's there's much more variation of, of that. So yeah, that's really cool to see. So you said this April 29th, is that what? That says so, yeah. So this all starts April 29th,

00:22:512026. So the first Star Wars After Dark event is on April 28th. So April 28th is the first Star Wars after. Interesting. And then the 29th they they start the they start the the new timeline at Galaxy's Edge. That's kind of weird because then I wonder what that's going to do to, well, I don't know, Is it already sold out? No, it's not. It hasn't even gone on sale yet. Oh, I wonder what that'll do to sales of the first Star Wars night, because people are like, well, I just want to go when the. Well, the Star Wars night, they kind of it's it's like all those characters come out anyways. Oh, that's true.

00:23:38OK. Yeah, so it really wouldn't be any different. And then Smugglers Run gets its new mission in May with featuring Mandalorian and Grogu for to help promote the new Mando and Grogo movie that's coming out in May. So there will be a new mission on Smoke Ghost Run, which is really good because that ride is really old. It's really I don't see it's really old. It's just. It's it was like Star Tours where before they updated the scenes in Star Tours, it was getting like kind of boring. It was getting kind of boring. And then they updated it and it was like. They need to do it.

00:24:20They need to do it like Star Tours, where like every time you go it's different. Yeah. Well, and like because they have, well in Star Tours, it's split, so it's like the first half and then second-half. So you can have different combinations, you know, and so that they should do something like. Yeah, what's different about Star Tours and Smugglers Run? Smugglers Run is like a video game so. That's true. It's all everything that you see is being rendered on the fly there, like you're playing on your Nintendo Switch or your PS-5 or whatever. So whatever you control is changing what's happening on the

00:24:54screen. Star Tours is a prerecorded, so as everything's been made as recorded, nothing changes. You can't, you can't change anything about that ride, whereas Smugglers run you can't. So that makes it a little bit more complicated, but that would be cool if they have like a handful of different missions to where, you know, the first part is one thing and second part is another, and you write it again and it changes up. Yeah, that would be nice if they did something like that. They do have chewy mode. Have you heard about Chewy mode? I. Have but I can't remember what it is. So instead of hearing Hondo talk to you, it's Chewy yelling at

00:25:28you the whole time. So there's a, there's a specific order buttons everybody has to press to turn on Chewy mode. Or you just have the cast member you can request. Hey, can you turn on Chewy Movie? Oh, I'm just going to request it next time. I mean, I know that's not quite as fun, but. But apparently it's really funny because you know Chewy is yelling at you because you're banging up his ship or Han ship. Yeah, Han's dead at that point, so. You know what? Spoiler alert if you haven't watched the new movie. Do you know when it ends? It ends. It ends with #9.

00:26:03Return of the Jedi Return of the Jedi. Here we go. Return of the Jedi is the end. Everyone's smiling, posing for a picture with some Ewoks. Yub Nub. You see for some reason old Obi Wan with young Anakin and old Yoda, why didn't when they made Anakin young? Did they not make Obi Wan young? I don't know, I always kind of wondered because it used to be old Anakin, then they updated it and it's young Anakin, but it's still old Obi one. Maybe because that's when he was not fully well, he was never fully on the dark side because he there was good in him and that's the whole thing, right. So like why did they have is Ewan McGregor like now I'm not

00:26:48coming back for that. I'm not coming back there to stand and just go. Yeah, I don't know why they did that, why they they made Anakin, but maybe because that was like, that was the last time that he was like good. And so they. They well see, I always thought what the original way it was with the old Anakin that that's when he was he became, he turned back to the good side lights. Well, I think also because you never, if you just watched the original trilogy, you never knew what Darth Vader looked like under his mask. Until the. Until the very end. Very end. But still he's like all beat up and he's like pale and.

00:27:26Yeah. And then you see him the way he looks and you're like, there he is. But then they spent so much time after, you know, But the prequels, George Lucas, like, people know Anakin now as Hayden Christensen. Yeah. So he made that change at the Return of the Jedi to make it. It just then felt kind of random because Obi Wan is still Alec Guinness 9. Yeah. Ewan McGregor. Yeah. So then it just felt, it feels kind of like. Speaking of Star Wars. That's all we've been talking about. I know the movie 2027.

00:28:00So next year is the 50th anniversary 50 of Star Wars a New Hope. Lucasfilm is bringing A New Hope, which was originally just called Star Wars. It didn't have the subtitle. It's just called Star Wars in 1977. They are bringing it back to theater as the original theatrical version has not been seen since I think before Empire Strikes Back came out. And this is not the original VHS. No, this is as has was seen in 1977. So you said, 'cause I said I was like, do you mean the original, like VHS release? Because we had that. That was also already changed because he, the George Lucas had

00:28:46already included the new subtitle Star Wars A New Hope Episode 4, and he also already added some things to it by then. So this is the original 1977 version Star Wars as everyone saw it back in 1977 with no changes. Apparently they found a original because George Lucas always said the original version doesn't exist anymore. Like it? It's not in our archives. Apparently they found one and so they've been spending the last few years really cleaning it up, making it look more modern with but still keeping the original like effects and everything. So that's coming out next year in May, which would be? That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool.

00:29:33So you know what, Rich Rod? I don't want to talk about it. He's he came in and just gave me sad faces. I know. He had a hard day yesterday, too. I know our son, our oldest, stayed in bed all day today. Yeah. Because. Because he's sick. He's sick. But you know what? But anyways, yeah, so that's what's happening to Galaxy's Edge starting April 29th of this year. Yeah, so that's exciting. There's way too much going on where we're like, oh, 'cause I want to go when Bluey gets there and we might just have to combine.

00:30:50When when is that that's happening? In March, OK, So we might just have to wait and go like early May or something or just go for all of it. Separate trips. Separate trips. Yeah. So you mentioned that there was there's new treats, you know, we. I just you just scrolled. Look at this, look at that. You can't see that, but we can see it. It's like a Mickey shaped. Croissant, ice cream, Macaron. What is that? Just like a Cinerol? I don't know. Let's let's find out. So new treats coming to Disneyland in 2026.

00:31:33Yeah, Sorry, Disney Worlders. This is all Disneyland happening. We get all the cool. Star Wars, this says the 70th, which is interesting because that's been going on for like a year. All right, so starting January 8th, Carnation Cafe is getting a rum punch. Rum Punch? That's weird that that's going to Carnation Cafe. That should go to Jolly Holiday. Yeah, Bacardi Superior Rum, Meyer's Rum Original dark pineapple, orange and lime juices. OK, I'll try the rum punch. Jolly Holiday is getting a lemon chiffon tea sweet tea topped with lemon chiffon foam. Oh, I love sweet.

I wonder if it's at the end of Main Street in front of the train station, no? You know where I think it is. Remember last time we were there and we watched it in front of Small world? They had that reserved seating right there. That's. True. It's front, it's front of small world. So that I think were they already doing that? I don't know if that was reserved for another.
