Tim got the chance to step inside Pixar Animation Studios, and this week we’re taking you along!

We’re talking about what it’s actually like inside Pixar’s Emeryville campus, from the iconic Luxo lamp and Pixar ball to original concept art, Cars models, secret rooms, recording studios, movie memorabilia and some pretty incredible pieces of Disney history.

Tim shares some of the coolest details from his Pixar tour, including how artists turn real-world research into animated worlds, what’s hiding around the Pixar campus, and what it was like seeing the creative process behind movies like Cars, Toy Story, Hoppers and more.

Plus, we talk about Tim’s first ride in a driverless Waymo through San Francisco before putting some Disney favorites to the ultimate test: overrated, underrated or appropriately rated?

00:00:15Hey guys, it's Tim. And welcome to episode 142 of the Dreaming of Disney Podcasts. And I'm with my beautiful wife, Audrey. Audrey. Hello, Batman. Hello. Hello. Hello. It's another week, another week of talking Disney, Disney parks and start things off there. This is probably going on. You've probably seen this on the socials, but Costco has this crazy new deal and I think I told I, I think I told you it was 3 days is actually two days. It's a it's a 2 day park hopper ticket. Oh well, that's not nearly as good of a deal. Nearly good, but still really.

00:01:06Good. It's still a good deal. So it's two days park hoppers with lightning lane and a $60.00 food credit card for like 330 dollars so. 349. 349, so 350, So what? That's 175, yeah, 175 a day. And that's, that comes out to less than $100 a day for tickets. If you do the math, if you back it all out, that's a really good deal. So if you're if you're a Costco member, go go snatch that up. And it's like from now to December or something, right? You have to redeem it. Like you have to go to the parks or you can just buy it. No, there it's you had the tickets are only good between October and December other than

00:02:06the like December 12th, so middle of December and then you if you you don't have to use both tickets on the same trip. So you can use the ticket one day, but it has to be used. They bought that they have to be used within the 13 day period. So you can use ticket one day and then within you know say like a couple days later you can use again or 10 days or you know however, but it has to be used within 13 days of each other. Got it. That was like when we went to a San Diego Zoo, we got like some like San Diego pass one year and it was the same kind of thing where it's like you had to. Yeah, but yeah, that's a great deal. So you're a Costco member and good night mainstream Voyager?

00:02:54And welcome to our friends on Tiktok. Welcome our Tiktok friends. If you don't know already, we go live on Tiktok when we record these podcasts, most of the time on Sunday nights. YouTube. There it is.

00:03:32So we'll be doing the video version of this. So we're recording this. You get to see our face and the awesome merch that we have on right now. We got the West Coast Disney Club representing right here. It's a hat. For those of you that are just listening, it's a hat. There's also East Coast version. If you if you didn't know, Main St. Dreamers is the name of our of our brand and our community. Our community on TikTok and and our brand.

00:04:13So Main Street dreamers.com there it. Is all the links are in the show notes if you wanna check it out. Yeah. And you, you've come up with some there. You just came up with a good Epcot. Yeah, yeah. Epcot designs two different. Epcot Designs 1 is more like whimsical one more like, you know, techie, you know, for the tech nerds out there. Yeah, but so check those out. We're having fun. We're having fun. OK, so to start this off, we were gonna mention that you got to do something pretty cool. It was pretty cool. A little bit uneventful, if I have to be honest.

00:04:55Yeah, but please. Be honest. Still really cool. Somewhere that I've been wanting to go for a very long time. Yeah. And so actually some place I haven't wanted to work for a very long time, but it just wasn't, wasn't, wasn't the plan. But so for those who may not know, have I said this on the podcast? I don't think I have. We have said, I believe at some point we said that you work for a company. My coworkers know that I have this podcast. So it's like at this point, but I don't know. So I, I work for a division of the Walt Disney Company. So I was in San Francisco

00:05:49earlier this week for a conference. And whenever I'm like in the area of like a office of the company, I like to, you know, visit some of the sometimes I know people that work there. So I don't, you know, I get to see them face to face that I usually don't get to see them face to face or you over Zoom or Teams or whatever. But I've been to Lucasfilm, I haven't. We have been to. Lucasfilm. I got to do that one. Yes, that's true. That was fun. But this time I got to go to Pixar, and Pixar is a really hard place to get into. You have to really know somebody personally to be invited for a

00:06:34tour. They're very strict about who gets to go there and. I was not happy about it when he told me. I know. I was a little bit of a grumpy, pouty little girl about it, I'm not gonna lie. Yeah, yeah, you're pretty upset and I'm. I felt bad too staying. At home with four kids for days, you're like, I'm going to Pixar. It's this like normally when I'm traveling for work, I it's very busy. I don't have like a lot of free time. This trip I had a little bit more free time than I usually do, and so I wanted to see if I could, you know, get a tour. So I reached out to some

00:07:14coworkers who may have some Inns and got to go to Pixar for about an hour. So that was pretty cool. I haven't. We have not talked about it really. He didn't really tell me anything about it. Pixar is located in Emeryville, which is on the East Bay of San Francisco. So it's not like in the city proper of San Francisco, It's it's to the east of the Bay. So if you look at San Francisco, look to the east near Oakland. And it's in a really like nondescript area like you've seen like the probably this, this picture of the gates of Pixar, like. Yeah, where it just said it has like 3 brick pillars.

00:08:02It says Pixar on top. And it's like in like this industrial park, you would never know that it was in in a place like that. And so pulled up, parked, it just looks like any other like office complex. But then it's when you actually like get all the parking lot and then walk up and the first thing that you see when you walk up is the Pixar lamp and Pixar ball from Toy Story A. Huge. Like life-size. So yeah, so that's the first thing that you see. And so that was really cool seeing that cause I've seen I have some coworkers have gone there who have done work with Pixar and it was neat to see that in person.

00:08:57So when you walk in you. So if you didn't know, Pixar was founded by Steve Jobs, the the founder of Apple. He when he was fired from Apple in the early 90s, he went and founded a new computer company called Pixar. And Pixar, they made computers. They didn't start off as an animation company and so they they started off making computers and then they developed computers that are powerful enough to do 3D animation and they were the first company to create 3D videos, 3D animation videos. They started out as a, you know, as a hardware company making computers and then as a advertising agency. So they made commercials first. One of our most famous

00:09:54commercials was Tropicana orange juice. You probably remember that bouncing orange. Yeah, they they they were. I totally like. I wouldn't. Like so that was before before Toy Story. Yes, I totally remember that. They they became famous for that and doing things like that. And so he eventually came back to Apple, Steve Jobs and he owned both companies. It wasn't until the early 2000s that Disney bought Pixar. It was in the Bob Iger era, so it was. So they had already made Toy Story. They've. Already made Toy Story they made.

00:10:35'Cause that was the only it was, it was still it. They said it differently. It was like a Disney and Pixar film instead of Disney Pixar. Pixar was. Or it was like, yeah. Disney was the distributor and it wasn't till after The Incredibles, I believe, that Disney bought Pixar and so they were in a different when they built, when they made Toy Story and A Bug's Life, they were in a different area. They weren't in Emeryville, they weren't in this building. So it was after the success of Bug's Life that they built the current building that they were in and the the tour guide, Kathy, she told me that they like to say that their current building was built by Bugs

00:11:21because it was built by Bugs Life. I love. Bugs Life. It's underrated. So when you first get there, you get the main building is called the Steve Jobs building. So it was dedicated to him after after he died. And he was very particular about the design of this. And she was telling me that they built a, there's lots of brick in the, in the building. And he was very specific of how the the the order of the colors of the bricks went and. They did. He they did it wrong at 1st and he made them tear it all down and start over again. Oh. My gosh.

00:11:59Yeah, so. Kind of a monster. Yeah, he was. That's if you know anything about Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs. That's just the reputation. Very, very specific and very particular of how you want things made. So you this the main area is called the atrium. So this is the the you walk in as just a huge industrial looking building with huge natural light coming in. And you have the Luxo Cafe, which is named after the lamp. The lamp is called Luxo and and so they have, you know, coffee. They have, you know, food and other things you can buy. And my tour guide was like, do you want coffee?

00:12:49You drink it at first. I'm like, no, I'm fine. I just had, you know, coffee on the drive in and I was like, wait a second, I'm in Pixar and I should get some free coffee. You should. So I got some free coffee. Was it good? Was it like a? It was actually. Good. It was the best coffee you've ever had. It was pretty. Good. I mean, it was better than coffee I had at the hotel last week. Well, yeah, hotel coffees. So when when they're in, when they're working on a movie, they they feel like they have like mural murals, murals all over

00:13:28the building and they change those out depending on what movie that they're currently marketing. Right now they're in between movies 'cause they just came out with Toy Story 5, so it's Hoppers and then Toy Story 5. Right. And then? So a lot of their artwork that is displayed right now is around Hoppers and Toy Story that's coming down in the winter as they get ready for the next movie was Got To, which is the one about the cat in France? I think so. So yes, they have that and they have different like statues and stuff. Here's me with. No one can see it. I know, but I may add these on

00:14:12to the video on YouTube. Oh OK. They have like life-size, you know, models and statues of different characters. And so they have Luigi and. What's his name? What's his name? What's his name? Tim Luigi. And I can't remember Guido, Guido. It's interesting that Lightning is so much smaller than Luigi. These are like cardboard cutouts. Oh, OK, OK. And. There's that kaboom kaboom in the background. Duke Kaboom was probably the only thing that was kind of funny about Toy Story 4. Yeah, and then they had a big

00:14:46display of for Toy Story 5 and so. So hang on, let me take. We went upstairs. Jamie, you'll like this. And they have museums for different, like changing out museums where they have artifacts or artifacts, but like props and things that they use for making their movies. And it's currently rotating depending on what's going on. So whether it's the current movie that they're working on or anniversaries. So right now it was cars because of the 20th anniversary. What? Yeah, last year was the 20th anniversary 2025 or is it? No 26, it came out right before I moved. So yeah, it was 20.

00:15:37Oh yeah. So. The 20, it's the 20. I love cars so much. So they had just like this display of cars, memorabilia, props and everything. And so they had, these were some of the, the clay models that they do. So they, when they design characters, they design them with actual clay models like sculptures first, so they can see what it looks like in 3D space, not in the computer. And so they get that, you know, locked in and then they scan that into the computer and that becomes the character inside the computer. So they have this this employee who still works there now, Jerome Ranth and he is one of

00:16:23their model makers. And so he he hand sculpts all of these these characters and then they scan them into the computer. Should have got me something. Cars. You know how much I love cars. I know, I don't think they had anything. Cars, they had something, but it was like cars 3, cars 2. Type stuff. I was like. And and so it just, it was just like hallways full of like storyboards and like drafts and, you know, concept art. They have what I'm showing Audrey in here right now is what they call a color script, which is where they, they tell a full movie on one page. So each, each scene of the movie

00:17:16has has like representation of that scene and has concept art using color. So that way they can see the full movie on one page and determine whether if the the colors and the scenes are balanced. So they see, oh, there's too many light scenes or there's too many dark scenes. And so they can can, they can see by looking at the color script, whether if it's too Moody, if it's hitting the right mood or vibes that they're looking for. So they, they use that to to do that. And just some more concept art of radiator springs. So this this is they actually had dirt from Route 66 that would that they did on their

00:18:07research tour when they were doing the movie. So they actually took dirt from the area because it, you know, the dirt's very different. It's like red and you have the Reds and coppers not, not the kind of dirt that you see here in California. And some actual like, like props from different locations like the Hudson Hornet. There's an actual badge from a car called the Hornet and different things. So they have like physical representation of those items so that that when they make them in the computer, they look, you know, accurate. Here's another concept art of radiator springs. These were all done with pastels.

00:18:59So like the fact how they got neon, like how they were able to draw neon using pastels, like how it's just like glowing, but it's like hand drawn. Yeah, it's it's pretty crazy how they how they were able to do that. This is the actual mater. Oh my. Gosh, so this was a truck that they found on their research trip on Route 66 and and the the the quote here from Bob Pauley, who is a concept artist at Pixar, says Mater's great fun because it goes back to some of the research trips we took. I remember in one town we pulled around the corner and there was these old rusty trucks and one in particular was Mater. We found him these cars patina in different way in the

00:19:53southwest is down to East Coast rust. It's a sunburn and the sides kind of retain some of their color and the dirt and the where. And I was enamored by that. The detail like that, it rusts different, Yeah, in the Southwest that they put that into the character. Oh yeah, they take it so seriously. Which like kind of a side note, but like my sister just got back from Africa and I know this is in Pixar, but she they went on several different like safari rides and she was like, it's crazy how like I'm like I'm looking at Zazu. Like she had video of a horn, horn, hornbill, hornbill. I'm like, I'm singing this song.

00:20:44They saw Warthogs and she was like, it ran like Pumbaa. Like she was like, it was kind of she's like, it made me like appreciate the, you know, the animator, like the how detailed and how they put that into the animation. Like that they, you know, observed these animals and put that into the animation. She was like, it was, you know, it was crazy to see. So I mean in similar, I know that's Disney, but she was like, yeah, just noticing how how much they pay attention to detail for sure yeah to getting it accurate. That's why they're that's why they're the the best animation, like the where are the all the other ones, you guys? So this picture, I know you

00:21:29can't see it, but we're on the other side of the building. So this is looking towards the entrance. So we were we were up here. So we came around came all the round the way down this side. So it's. Just a big warehouse looking building, yes? It's a big square and you're just going in a circle. We weren't. It's. A big square and you're going in a circle Well. Yeah, going around. I know what you mean. So the, the Pixar is on a street called Park Ave. And so they, even though 'cause I, I was noticing a lot of the, the offices they have like the office number, the person's

00:22:09name, and they would say either like Upper West Side, Upper East Side. And I was like, why is everything like New York themed? Because they're obviously not in New York. So because the, the campus is on Park Ave. they decided like, let's just give it a New York theme. So everything I love themed after New York as far as like, so if you're on the, if you're on the top floor on the West side. You're on the Upper West. Side Upper West. Side and then the. Same thing on the east side or if you're on the bottom floor, it's Lower East Side, lower West side. And and so I wasn't able to go

00:22:50into like, you know, like the cool areas because live is off limits because of when they're in production for a movie. There are certain areas that that have science and closed set. So you're aren't able to take non employees past those areas. Even though I work for the company, I'm not allowed. You don't. Well, you don't work for Pixar I. Don't work for Pixar and so they're in the production for their next movie Gato. And so a lot of those places like where the animators work and. I hope it's good. Yeah, it looks good. And so I wasn't able to see that cause I've had them coworkers

00:23:30who have have been able to go into those offices. And so you've probably seen these on different behind the scenes of Pixar stuff, but the animators are allowed to decorate their offices and cubicles however they want. So some have like made it into like a tiki room like. A. Tiki Room at Disneyland or one has modeled their, their cubicle and their office as a plane crash like on Lost. So it's like it's like a jet fuselage and like torn apart and everything. So they're they they have to pay for themselves, but they're able to make it however they want to look. One even built like a log cabin. So they took their cubicle and

00:24:11made it into a log cabin and so they're it's they're super unique. There's 13 speakeasies in Pixar that are run by the employees, which is interesting. So yeah, what? Yeah. So a lot of some of these these offices and cubicles have have secret rooms and apartments that that are run by the employees to. Where they do they have a like bartender, mixologist? Who's making these? Drinks employees. It's the employees that that do it, so they run it themselves. This employee run. But like what employees, like, are they working on a movie? Are they animators? And they're like, hang on

00:25:01someone's in my Speakeasy, you got to go make them a cocktail like. Well, I think they probably open it like after hours or like just to relax, like hey, we're done for the day, let's go have a drink. So there's like speakeasies. There's also secret rooms throughout the the the offices. So if you know California Adventure Lamplight Lounge, there's a secret. There's a secret room. Yeah. That room is modeled after some of the secret rooms in here at Pixar. My niece got to do, got to go to the secret room. There's a, there's a specific conference room where the, the table is a glass table and

00:25:46underneath the glass table is full of like hot Hot Wheels, like little teddy cars that was made by John Lasseter because he was really into cars and, and Hot Wheels and all that kind of stuff. And and so that conference room is the the secret room at Lamplight Lounge at the California Adventure is modeled after that conference room and it has all that lot of the similar decor and things like that. So next on the tour on the other side of the building was a display for hoppers and a lot of the concept art. So with a lot of the older movies, Toy Story, Bugs Life, cars, all that, all the concept art was done by hand, pastels, pencil.

00:26:39Now all the concept of art is done on the computer still by hand, still by they still use like, but it's a digital pencil, much like an Apple pencil, like on an iPad and things like that. So they do it by hand, but digitally now. And so this is a model of the, why do they call it in hoppers, the glade, the glade. And so a lot of these, these areas, these, these moments in the movie, they still make them by hand. So the, the, the artist who made this physical 3D or not physical model of the Glade is, is the same artist who did the, the, the models for cars. So he's still making for the current movies and everything. So they do that 'cause they wanna see like, how does it look

00:27:39like in the real world? How can we, you know, model this in the computer? All these sticks that he used were all sticks gathered on the campus at Pixar. On the very top, there is King George. Right there. This this. And a lot of people in our community weren't fans of hoppers. I know I I, I thought hoppers. You laughed a lot. I laughed a lot. I thought it was hilarious. So this is a, this is another color script. So this is the whole movie on one page. And so by looking at this, so you can see like, oh, there's some light scenes, there's some

00:28:20dark scenes and they, they can look at this and say, OK, does it look balanced? Is it, is it too dark? Is it too light? Are we hitting the moods that we, that we need to hit there in the script? So they're able to, to look at this and really determine if there needs to be any adjustments to the story. Did I get so I didn't take a picture of this. So they had a picture, a concept artwork of there. There's a moment in The Hoppers where the seagulls are carrying the the white. Great. White shark. The shark, Yeah. So they actually had to figure out how many seagulls would it

00:29:03take to lift a great white shark. So they actually did the calculations. OK. And she she asked me like, how many seagulls do you think? I said, I don't know, like 200 something. It was, it was like 400 something seagulls. And they used that amount of seagulls in the actual movie. So when you see. That they actually used that amount of seagulls to carry that great white shark. Wow, that's funny. So then we went into Toy Story 5. There's a lot of concept art about some of the designs sears Buzz and his camo, and so a lot of the the the artwork has notes

00:29:53from the directors and the producers like this one of Buzz and bunnies where it says not fat just for. Talking about the Don't make them fat. We don't want fat bunnies. We want. Fluffy bunnies. Here is a physical models of four key and what's the is it knife I? I don't know, I don't know. So they had to do it 'cause they during the wedding, wedding scene, you know, her veil is made of toilet paper. Yeah. So they needed to see, OK, how does toilet paper actually look and feel? How does it flow? So that way when they animate it, it looks accurate.

00:30:37I love this one because it's Buzz as a flying toy 'cause, you know, in the original Toy Story, when he finds out, sees the commercial of himself, Yeah, this is not a flying toy. And then he became a drone in five. Yeah. Pretty good and then he flies in Toy Story 5 and so they actually had to make that buzz. So they actually made a real buzz and. That could fly. That could fly like a drone buzz. A drone buzz. So that was cool. And then me in front of Toy Story 5 mural. Too bad it's not Toy Story 1. Two or three. This is a cool art wall where

00:31:20it's all color-coded, so it starts. Oh, it's video you guys. I'm sorry I can't spoiler. Alert it starts, you know, with the Reds and then. Kind of goes Incredibles into the yellows and then greens with Merida aliens. And some of it is concept art. So like, obviously this doesn't that's not how Missus incredible looks, but but yeah, that was cool. And then we went outside and got my picture with. What's it, what's his name? Lux. Lux Lux Luxo in front of the building. And so when I, I was, I was asking her, I was like, I, I asked her, you know, how long have you worked at Pixar?

00:32:16She's only worked there for about four years. And so I was, I said how how did everybody take it when you when a Bugs Land had to be taken out for Avengers Campus? So sad. And she's like, oh, you know, it's, it's, it was pretty sad. You know, there were a lot of the, the, the, the animators and those who worked on that movie, you know, they're sad to see that go. But now we have Pixar Pier and it's all Pixar. And so we're pretty happy about the representation of the parks now. But they have a memento from a bug's land, which is Heimlich, the Heimlich train. And, and so she let me sit in it and I, I told her, I told her

00:33:03that my, our, our boys love this ride. Our oldest boys, I remember. Oh my gosh, this is. The sound works in this so he he talks still so she turned it on for me. OK, I remember I was just looking to see if I have the picture on my phone. You probably have it on my on your phone. I found this one which breaks you guys. All of them sitting on the and like looking back while on the on the train. These are our oldest 2 who are now 16 and 13. They just did this. I I did not pose them like this. They I'll show I'll show the YT. They literally were just looking at the castle and started like

00:33:46the the oldest just hugged the little one. But we have a picture 'cause it was like they were old enough now to sit in front of us on Heimlich's and we sat behind them. And so I have pictures of them like, 'cause they were like riding their own ride you guys. And now they go off on their own and ride the big rides 'cause they're teenagers. Just give me a minute. I know, I'll, I'll give you a minute. So one thing, I didn't get a picture of this, but in the first building, the main building, I was upstairs and there was these four chairs. She's like have a seat in one of these chairs. I was like, OK, I sat down.

00:34:30I was super old. It was like really crookedy. It was like a lounging chair, like a wood lounging chair with like leather seats. And it was just like super old. And she said those were the original chairs that were in Walt Disney's office. Get out. She's bad at me now. The podcast is over. The podcast is over. I don't want to talk to you anymore about this day. Hang on, we have some questions that I don't want to forget about. How old were your kids when you let them go alone in the park? We just recently. Just recently when they have. When, So when our oldest got a phone, I want to say he was like

00:35:3114 and then the next one was around 11 or 12. They're 2 1/2 years apart. So he was either 11 or 12 and I let them go on. OK, wait, maybe he maybe our oldest was 13 or 4. I can't remember. I think he was 13 when we got him a phone. And I waited outside of Buzz Lightyear and I let them get in line and then I met them in the in the gift shop where the exit comes out. So that was like our first little, we're a little more protective than some this last February. So our oldest was 15 1/2. We let them like, OK, you guys can walk over here. You guys can. Actually when we were in Disney

00:36:25World a year and a half ago when our oldest would have been like 15, we let him walk somewhere to get some food and come back. But it was this last trip. So this is a way long answer. I'm sorry. I go into way too many details when it comes to my kids that nobody cares about. I want to say like 15 1/2 and 13. We were like, OK, you guys can go over to Galaxy's Edge, you can ride the rides there or, you know, whatever they were going to, you know, meet us back here when you're done. We had still have not just been like, hey, yeah, go all afternoon. It's like, you guys can go over to Galaxy's Edge, ride that ride, or you guys can go to

00:37:03Tomorrowland, ride Star Tours, then meet us back here, if that helps. And then we had another question. Oh, no, we didn't. Just wait until your babies move out. Gina by themselves. Our oldest would love to like he the first time we let him like kind of venture out a little on his own. Then we go back to the hotel and he's kind of like, can I go back into the park? We were staying at the Disneyland Hotel and we were like, no, like, so we're we're a little more protective and strict. We're we're kind of strict parents. I came from a very non strict

00:37:46household. I also just even with the last time when we let them do a few things, I'm like, OK, I totally get it. Like I'm when I'm a teenager, it's hard for me to realize they're teenagers. OK, of course I'd want to go, but I also don't want them to just always want to do something apart from us, especially because our youngest is only 5 that I'm like, OK, I still want you guys to do things with us as a family because your little sister is five and. Yeah. No, I'm holding on to them. Yes. Oh yes, we track them. Yes, Yeah, we definitely track them like at all times. And I'm sure the next time we

00:38:27go. Well, and so we have a we have three boys. So right now they are 1613 1/2 and 10 1/2. So the 10 1/2 year old boy doesn't want to hang out with the five year old sister. He wants to go with the boys. But do we totally trust them to keep him? You know, so we have to kind of be careful with like, OK, we trust the oldest 2 to go do some things more on their own, but we don't trust them to have the 10 year old the whole time. And then he's going to be upset because why can't I go? So we kind of have to like be balanced. But OK, you guys can go. You're going to take him. You're going to go do this and

00:39:06this and this and then come back. And then sometimes times the like last time I remember he with our 10 year old was kind of like tired and he didn't want to go with them. So then we're like, OK, you guys can go do a little more because they didn't have him. So we got a lot of kids and we've got the age difference and yeah, just trust the oldest to babysit a few times. I wish I could the what? The first time I left him and let him watch our daughter, I was literally just going. It was before she started school and I was literally just going to pick up the other two from school. And when I came back after like 10 minutes, he was letting her

00:39:49either watch something or play a video game that I would never let her do. And he was like, well, She asked. I was like I was gone from. 10 She was playing with knives. I put on a movie and I said just sit here, watch the movie, make sure she's safe. I'll be back in a few minutes. And then she's playing. I can't remember, but I was like, I was gone. OK, so anyways, that was a tangent, but there's our tangent. There's my. So going back to Pixar, went to the next building, which is kind of like the recording studio, other offices, conference rooms. There's lots of like little like details that are cool.

00:40:30Like they have like the equivalent of hidden hidden Mickeys where they have like different Pixar characters like like as like Emblems in the floor. They have that at Pixar Pier. Yes, they do. Yeah, OK. In the in the elevator, No, no, no. They had it in the carpet, but they had them in a in the elevator. They have a different character in each elevator. And this, this building, you walk in and there's a cool portrait of Bo Peep. So this is one of their, this is one of their, their theaters behind this this wall. But like if you look at the design above the the door, what

00:41:13is that? Can you figure out what that design is? It's. The lamp it. Is it's the lamp, It looks like like a sideways play button, but you can see like here's the base and it goes up. Oh. Yeah, then. Then it's just like repeats, like in reverse. So I thought that was cool. That's cool. Inside out characters. Since I don't like anxiety, we were just having, we had a whole discussion the other day on my life about, well, we were just going through all the Pixar movies and I was saying that I like inside out way better than Inside Out too.

00:41:46And I think they did a fantastic job showing anxiety. But I already have enough hang on. I already have enough of it that I don't like watching it. Like I don't like I can't watch the character of anxiety and just like be like, oh, like I'm like. You get anxious. I get anxious and I'm like I already have enough of that I don't need it now. OK, so and also I didn't totally. I don't feel like they I don't feel like they showed envy very well. I don't feel like that came across in that character yes, anxiety is speaking to my anxiety. I have anxiety I have since I

00:42:27was little and I know I don't need to watch a cartoon about it. OK, so here's the inside out characters. Sorry, it's kind of the color is not coming through, but this the. Incredible. Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack. Yeah, I I love the Cars and the Incredibles. I can't pick a favorite Pixar, but Cars and the Incredibles are up there. I love Jack Jack so much. And then moving on, I went went to their awards case with some Oscars, spent some time with Mr. Oscar himself. So that was cool to see one of those in person. Yes, I do sorry I'm just commenting on someone on on

00:43:13TikTok. I do think that they they showed it very well and the and the way and my heart like whose heart wasn't just breaking like for Riley, like when she's in the box, you know, but all leading up to that, I'm just like, I'm, I'm not enjoying watching this. We're like, most of the time when I'm watching Pixar, I'm enjoying it and I'm like, I, I'm not, I don't, it's, it's giving me anxiety and I'm feeling like I'm giving my anxiety to my kid. And Riley's not my kid, but they did a great job. I just would rather watch Inside Out than Inside Out too. Moving on, this is one of the secret rooms. So this the, the, the campus, the Pixar campus was built, you see.

00:44:06The reflection of our sign on here. They do not have a Main St. Dreamer sign in their secret room, but that'd be cool. You should have left them some stickers I. Should have it. It was behind a fireplace. And there's just like this. Door that goes in and this room is baseball themed because the, the campus they they built it was on a former baseball field for the minor league team, the Emeryville Oaks that played there. So they, there's kind of a homage to that team. They this used to be a secret room, but people kept getting stuck in it. And so now they just leave the door open because people kept

00:44:51getting stuck. So, so that now they're able to show, you know, people the secret room. So, and then this is one of the staircases that's bottled after Seoul. So And so a lot of the employees at Pixar are obviously very talented artists and a lot of them play music. And so they have a battle of the bands at Pixar. Oh my gosh, that's awesome. And so a lot, some of the the bands, they actually come down here and play. So the, the acoustics are really good right here. And so you, they'll come down here, they'll rehearse, and it like fills the hallways. With the music that they play. And so this in the same

00:45:38building, it was their recording studio. And so whenever someone records in the recording studio, they signed the wall. So this is Owen Wilson, who obviously voiced Lightning McQueen. And so we we spit. Probably we. Probably. Won't be able to see but. 1520 minutes in here just seeing who we can find. Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks, my favorite person. When he's he signed for Toy Story 3. 'Cause he probably was like, I'm done, I'm done with this, right? So it's Tom Hanks. And that was it. That was the end of the tour. And then after that went into

00:46:28the employee store and then I went in there and said I have no idea what you're going to want. I kind of knew. So you Facetimed me and I had no idea what I wanted and then I got in a bad mood. Yeah, look, 'cause I was like. Hey, at least I'm honest. I'm really you guys. I got in a bad mood and I was not nice. I wasn't nice. Kathy, Kathy, who was my tour guide, she's like, I always, I always suggest doing a FaceTime. So that's why I Facetimed you and and so I didn't tell you this, but like going to I knew. When I went there, are you gonna make me feel worse? No, I'm not gonna make you feel worse. I just knew she had a short

00:47:09amount of time. So you are gonna feel. Worse. No. So. So that's what she she. So after Facetiming for you a little bit, she tapped my shoulder and said, hey, I got to go. It was great to meet you. And then I told you I was like, oh, my tour guide's leaving and I can't, I can't be there without someone being there with me. And so and so that's when I told you and then you got upset. OK, that sounds, that sounds bad. I just, I felt the pressure and then I felt the pressure and then you had to go and I was just like, I don't know, just

00:47:48get whatever like I was. I know I didn't. I didn't mean to make a sound like that. But yeah, it was a lot of pressure because I I didn't know what I wanted either. I was. Also tired and sick of the kids. And so, but because you wanted there was a missus incredible shirt it. Was really cool. But the sizes were weird because they were like, it wasn't just like a unisex shirt, it was a, it was a women's cut shirt. Also, when when you finally held it up, the picture of misses incredible, like I thought it was bigger and because it was just a black shirt with like this white outline of Misses Incredible and I love misses

00:48:27Incredible, but it was actually pretty small. Like when you held it up, the picture of Missus incredible was kind of small. I was like, oh, OK, That's when I changed my mind because I was kind of like, oh, I thought it was like missus incredible on the shirt, but it was just kind of small. And I was like. And then there was an Aliens from Toy Story. There was a lot like there were so there were so many shirts and I was just like. And this isn't just shirts from like the parks. This is. Yeah. This is stuff that's only at. So I felt like, OK, like when are you going to go again?

00:49:01Maybe never. And I'm like, OK, I want like a like what Pixar shirt do I want? What's my favorite Pixar? I don't have a favorite Pixar. And then you showed me one of Jessie and Bullseye and I don't typical. I love bullseye. I've loved Bullseye since day one. I am I'm not a fan of Jessie. I like her probably the most in the in five actually, but I'm but I still I'm not, I'm not the biggest fan of Jesse. Her story is sad. I I I do like Toy Story 5, but the picture was really pretty. Like the art was really pretty. It was like, it was like it was hand drawn and it was like Jesse and bullseye like head to head and it was just a really sweet

00:49:43picture. And I was like, do I want that? But I'm don't really like Jesse that much. But I was putting way too much thought into it. Like most things, I was putting way too much thought into it. But there was a Aliens shirt that you liked, but they didn't have your size. And so after I hung out with you, I asked the employee who was working the stores. I hate you happen to have a medium this. And she did. Which I probably could have done a small 'cause it's pretty big, but you know. And so got a couple shirts, yeah, stickers, magnets. Got a pen that says Pixar? But but yeah, that was pretty

00:50:22much it. It was cool to be there, to see it in person. Love to go again, love to take you. I would love to go, but I'm at least and you, you wouldn't do this without me. What I want to do in the San Francisco area, what is the Disney Family Museum? Yes, that is something I've always wanted to do and you would not do I. Would not do that without you. And that's not actually owned by Disney. So that's a that's a separate, it's owned by the Disney family. And so, but yeah, definitely wanna do that for sure. Yeah, well, I don't know if we Oh yeah, OK to real quick tell Jamie about the way MO

00:51:11experience. Oh, yeah. So the day before I was in San Francisco and I hate driving in San Francisco. I like, I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I have PTSD from years ago where I got lost. And yeah. And so I wanted to get there's a Nintendo store, so I wanted to get some stuff for the for the kids. And so I took a Waymo to Nintendo store from the hotel and if. You don't know what a Waymo is. It's a self driving car. It's like a Uber but self driving. So you don't have a person in a

00:51:51driving? So it's a it's a Uber that's driven by itself with no human driver. So weird. And they're all over San Francisco. You drive through or walk through the city, They're everywhere. And I saw way more waymos than I know. It's a weird thing to say. Way more waymos than actual like Ubers and Lyfts. Way more waymos. And everyone I talk to is like, oh, you take away MO. There's so much better take away MO. Like the the like like coworkers they. Called Waymos Take away take away MO.

00:52:37But yeah. But really, why are they called that? I don't know, it's probably short for something. Way MO gasoline MO time, way MO freedom. Way MO Freedom, that's what it is. Why are they called Way MO? Yes. The name. Contractor. Way and MO for mobility. Way MO mobility. A new way forward and mobility. That's what it's named. I'm approving these. I don't know if they are because it's it's filtering like almost like it's filtering a lot of comments. I don't know if they're coming through that I approve them.

00:53:24So, yeah, so I took a way MO from the hotel to the Nintendo store and it was awesome. It was you. It's like you. It's like if you ever use Uber, it's the works the exact same way. You pull up the app, you say where you want to go and then you say book ride and then it finds the nearest one to near you that doesn't have a a person in it or is dropping somebody off. And it tells you the license plate number, so you know which one it is. And then once it pulls up, it has your initials on the screen. So that way you know it's yours. And then as you walk up to it, it unlocks and you just get in. And then it starts talking to

00:54:12you like, hey, welcome. And it knew that was my first drive. So it gave me like instructions, like, OK, buckle up. Don't try to get out while driving. Don't jump ship, it's OK. And then shows you like, here's how you change the climate, here's how you can connect your Spotify. And like, you can control like you, you sit in the back, you don't sit, you can't sit in the front. No one can sit in the driver's seat. Oh, you can sit in the. Front you can. Sit in the front passenger. You can't sit in the driver's seat. OK, so they have two different

00:54:49versions. They have the Jaguar SUV which folds up the four people, and then they have a new one that's like kind of like a van. It's like a futuristic looking van. It looks like AVW bus. Oh, like the new like my sister has. Yeah, OK. But a little bit smaller and so that can hold more people. My sister has one of those you guys and just as a side note, when you drive in it, I was driving with her and like people stare at you, like you can see people driving on the opposite side and just be like it's kind of fun. Yeah. So that one holds a little bit more, but yeah, it was, it was

00:55:23cool. And I mean, it has all the sensors around it, so it knows when people are like, if you ever tried to drive in San Francisco, it's like chaos. People don't wait for the crosswalk. They just walk wherever they want cars going wherever. This is Jamie says. This is not Tiana's house, please stay inside. There was pull, the level, the yellow tap. When I was leaving the, the, the Nintendo store, you know, 'cause it pulls over and I mean, there's no shoulders in San Francisco. It's like either turn lanes or you're in the middle of the lane and you have to like get in real quick.

00:56:02And so it pulled over into a right turn lane. And so I got in and then people just started turning right, like they would go in the left lane to turn right to. Get around you to. Get around me even though I had the blinker on. I mean, I didn't, the car did. The way MO did. And there it, it was trying to like turn, but the cars kept going around it so it wouldn't move. And then there was pedestrians. And so they, I sat there for like 10 minutes trying to turn. And well, everyone else, like my coworkers who live in the city, they said like, Oh yeah, way MO's are super aggressive. You have to watch out for them. And like the one that I was in,

00:56:44I was like, it wasn't aggressive enough. And so it was kind of funny, but I loved it. I thought it was really cool because I hate taking Ubers because I hate talking to people. And it's. True you guys. He really doesn't like talking to people. I don't like taking Ubers because I don't feel safe. If I'm by myself, I will not take an Uber. But it, it navigated the streets super well and I didn't feel like like, Oh my gosh, that was a close call. It was like, I'd be like, why are we slowing down or And then a car would come around, 'cause it has sensors all the way

00:57:18around it so it can see everything. So you could say that is safer than a human driver because it has 360 vision where a human driver doesn't. It's, it's true. It's just I don't know. I don't know. But I liked it, it was cheaper than a Uber so because you don't have to pay a human driver or tip them. Because yeah, oh, that makes sense. That makes sense. So it was like, it was like 10 bucks, so it wasn't that. Much I I would say like even though I have control issues, so it would be very difficult for me, at the same time I would feel safe for, I think like I remember one time you and I was

00:58:10flying, I was going to the airport you and I were in. We were out of, I was flying out of Sacramento. We did not live in Sacramento, but I was flying out of there. So I had to take an Uber to the airport 'cause you were, you took the train. I took the train home. Who? Took us there anyways. We rented a car. We. Rented a car. We rented a car. We went and saw Michael Bublé and then I was flying. I don't know why we did it this way. I was flying. You're flying in new. York. I was flying to New York.

00:58:42So anyways, from wherever we were, I took an Uber to the airport. But I was very nervous. I mean, I'm a woman. Yeah. We won't go into all the issues there, but I'm a woman. So taking an Uber by myself, I'm nervous like you like were like what you take you've taken tons of Ubers by yourself and I'm like, no, I don't want to take an Uber by myself. So we, I think we requested a woman, but it wasn't a woman, it was a man. But you were tracking me and I like text you like I was like pretending. I think I did talk to you. I think I called you or something on the way. So I would feel safer doing away

00:59:20MO if I ever had, you know, if I was going to do an Uber again, because to me, I'm as a woman, I'm just like if it comes to taking an Uber by myself, I'm just like, no, I'm not no like to for me. So I would I would feel safer. So that was my trip to Pixar. There you go. That was it. Do we want to do our lightning round or I think. We should at least do the lightning round. So we were going to talk about some. Tim goes into lots of details. So do you. What are you talking? About I go into lots of tangents. Yes, I go into lots of details. You're right.

01:00:05OK, so we were going to do. Let me find it. Like a most unpopular Disney opinions of ours. And I have some like prompts here. But then we were just going to do a lightning round. Yeah, I thought. I thought we're doing the. Well, that's how we were going to end. But the the the Pixar took longer. So I say we just do our lightning round, throw some things out. But I'm going to say, am I? I do, I dare say probably my most unpopular Disney opinion. I didn't think about this at all. You came up with the 10 though, right?

01:00:45I. Came up with the the IE round. Yeah, yeah. My probably most unpopular Disney opinion that people are not going to agree. With. Lay it out there, layout the truth. Way, way, way too much Halloween. Yep. I'm not a fan. I agree. I know you do. What I thought? I thought this would be new. To you, we are not fans and I like it. Used to be. I used to go at the beginning of October and there was nothing. The only thing that changed was Haunted Mansion.

01:01:33Now you can't go in August and it just be summer. Yeah, so August 15th and it's like. So for those of you that love Halloween, I get it that you love it. For people that don't, it's like August, September, October, three months of like, I don't, I don't like, I'm not into this. Yeah. So there we go, there we go. There's my unpopular Disney opinion. OK, so we're going to do a lightning round where you have not told each other. Complaints to Adrianne, 123 Main St. OK, so. Al from home improvement. Oh, we've been watching home improvement.

01:02:24We're on the last season for. Complaints. Can't get to things. Well, it's just like, and it's, you know, another thing. This has nothing to do with Disney. This is just period. Why can't fall just be fall? Fall can't just be fall. It's like you realize there's more to fall than just Halloween, right? Like it, but it's just that's all it is now. And it's like there it is fall. Let's enjoy autumn guys. Autumn or pumpkin spice lattes? I actually don't like, I love pumpkin pie. I love pumpkin flavored things, but I don't like pumpkin and coffee. I don't like pumpkin.

01:03:02I love pumpkin cream Chai. Oh my goodness, I love it. Just just. Sweater. Weather, sweater weather, Some laking, raking of leaves, jumping in leaf piles and some Chai lattes. We don't need scary things all the time. OK? So what we're gonna do is we have each picked 10 things that you, we each have to rate either it's, in our opinion, overrated, underrated, or appropriately rated. OK, so it is just a lightning round. We're just gonna. We're just gonna do it. Go. All right, who wants to? Go first.

01:03:44Well, I have mine ready. I have. Did you not keep note of? Yours. No, I have. It's on. My oh OK, I don't want. OK OK, so you're going to tell me if you think it's overrated, underrated, or appropriately rated? OK, feel free to prep play at home. 7 Dwar's mine train. Underrated. No. Overrated. I got it wrong. Overrated. You think it's overrated? It's overrated. Mickey Pretzels. Overrated. Fantasmic. Overrated.

01:04:11It's really hard to impress Tim Figment. Way overrated times. 10 I don't even watch what we could say overrated where it's just like sentimental for people, you know and we did not grow up in Disney World. We grew up. I grew up land. And so we just don't get it. Web Slingers. Underrated. Grand Californian Hotel. Overrated. The fireworks show in Galaxy's Edge. Appropriately rated just good I. Don't know if you'll remember. Depending on, depending on the the the fireworks show that's going on true because it changes. OK, go ahead.

01:04:59Luminous the show in Epcot. I saw it like once. I know it's not totally fair. Appropriately rated I guess. Main Street electrical Parade. Way overrated. Oh my gosh, like overrated to the Max. That's the lamest thing ever I'm sorry. So boring. The new Walt animatronic. Appropriately rated. So I don't think it what was underrated for you Web Slingers, only one you thought Web Slingers was underrated? Oh yeah, that's fun. Those were my 10. OK, I don't want to look. At Chicken Computer. OK, I'm not. Looking Here we go. OK, Disneyland churros.

01:05:48Appropriately rated. Rope dropping. Appropriately rated. Matching Disney shirts. It's lightning around. You're supposed to. Be quick, I'm sorry. I'm first thought. My first thought, appropriately rated. OK, I'm kind of boring. That's what I'm saying to everything. Dole Whip. Overrated. Staying until park close. Underrated. Character dining I'm. Going to say appropriately rated. I want to explain that one more. Disney Lounge Fly backpacks. Overrated. It's a small world.

01:06:43Underrated. Under underrated. Let the record show Disney popcorn buckets. Overrated. Disney Adults. Underrated. Depending on the kind. Is that it? That's it. OK, OK, So character dining, I want to explain that because if you were good thinking you need to do it every time, I would say overrated. If it's like you need to do it every time, overrated. Don't do it every time. Crazy. Expensive, but it's so expensive. But we have done it well, If you count beauty in the Be our guest.

01:07:28Is that considered character dining? I think so. I think isn't Be Our Guest considered character dining? I don't know. It's very late for our East Coast friends. They might not be here anymore. Jamie, I think it is, but it's Be our guest. I don't understand why Belle doesn't walk around. If you don't know Be our guest. It is beautiful. Well, we also went during COVID. We went during COVID. I no, Belle doesn't go though. It's just the Beast. Just the beast. Well, it's Beast Castle, so it's his castle. But she's the like I and and and we had had a day I hadn't slept

01:08:07in a few days. I'd gotten I'd gotten very little sleep in the in few days before that because it was our first day on our first Disney World trip. Our youngest was only nine months old. It was still during COVID. So at the point where we got there and we were sitting down, like I just remember she was kind of upset. I think our five year old at the time was kind of upset. I don't really remember the food. It was gorgeous. I don't really remember the food. I hear different opinions on that, whether it's overrated or underrated, so we'll just take out Be our guest.

01:08:40The two that we have done that are like character dining is Cape May and Disney World and Storytellers Cafe in Disneyland at the Grand Californian. We loved both of them. The food I love breakfast food is my favorite food. So good at both so good and the characters coming up. Like you don't have to wait in line forever and ever for like 2 seconds of the characters. The characters come to you while and your kids while you're enjoying your food and it's feels more personal. Yeah, they spend time with you. They. Spend a little time like, I don't, I can't remember if it was Chip or Dale, like pretended to like steal our son's waffles and they're like making him

01:09:28laugh and like bit in his hat and like, it's expensive. It's a splurge. Are we going to do it every trip? Absolutely not. We've done it a couple of times in the 16 years of taking kids. We've done it twice and both times it was great. I love, I just love Donald at Cape May. Oh, Donald at Cape May was hilarious. He was like a grumpy old man and wanted to make sure that everyone knew that he was #1. Right, everyone wants Belle. So like, why is it Beast? I know I I do like it is crazy priced. No, no, no, no Roundup Rodeo is not character 'cause there's no character.

01:10:09But it's good food. It is good food. Need to do. That again, when we're hungry. Yeah, we had kids that were getting over being sick and none of them were hungry. But so I said appropriately rated because I do feel like it's popular, but I just want to explain it because if it's something you feel like you have to do, if you go more than once in a lifetime, you do not have to do it every trip. But like, we didn't. Our first character dining was in Disney World. We had gone to Disneyland together as parents for 14 years before we ever did a character breakfast or dining. So we never did it if, but like if you can swing it and splurge

01:10:59like at least the ones we have done, which are Cape May and Disney World, which is at the Beach Club and Storyteller's Cafe at the Grand Californian in Disneyland Resort. Both were in our opinions. Both were great because I've heard different opinions about Cinderella's royal table that's in the castle at Disneyland. I always hear that breakfast is better than dinner. Well, because breakfast is better over dinner. And you know what? It's just period. Breakfast food is the best food ever. Period. People are idiots, Leslie. What's that from anyways? All right. I just wanted to explain my

01:11:41answer a little bit. There you go. Because I don't want people to feel like, Oh my gosh, it's very expensive. Like Tim didn't even tell me. Tim didn't even tell me. Yeah. It's breakfast for dinner. I love. I don't know how people pay full price for that. I I don't know how they did it. I was like. It's crazy. We do have like a million kids. Also a little tip little tip if you're local, somewhat local. OK so we are somewhat local. We live 4 hours from Disneyland ish with there's no traffic we and we have a pass so we always would go in the morning. Our last day we'd like do 1/2

01:12:22day and then drive home. But I was always in a bad mood. I don't want to leave, I don't want to go back to real life and I don't care. Whatever Disney adults you will get it. I'd be in a bad mood and I want to want to go home. Our last It wasn't our last trip but our trip in February. Our last like biggish trip, instead of going into the park, that's just going to make me sad. Instead, we didn't go into the park at all. We did the character breakfast and we left from there. And it helped me because I got my well, I got an amazing breakfast. I got my characters, I got my little Disney.

01:13:02I was at the Grand Californian. I got my like Disney fix, but I didn't go into the park and not want to leave. 01:16:19Muffin. She is named after a Bluey character. 'Cause she is like Muffin, she is a little crazy. Her full name is Muffin Cupcake Healer. There she is. She's very pretty, but she's not very nice. Yeah, she's also been dealing with that eye infection too, so that's been fun. Stupid. Cats. It's one thing to give, you know, we've had to give toddlers eye drops for pink eye and that's. Rough. It's rough but trying to give a cat eye drops. I had scratches down my neck last week from her.

01:16:49It's a whole other very difficult. It's very difficult. We would wrap her up in a towel. She shredded that towel. She kind of hates me now. She she kind of runs every time I come near her, actually. So. But man, animals are expensive. Well, until next time everyone, we appreciate you. Thanks for listening the next time.
